NIC is committed to championing and celebrating our diverse network of alumni across the globe.

The overarching goal of the Alumni Relations project is to inspire, celebrate, and support alumni and students through meaningful opportunities, activities, and events that grow the NIC alumni community. The development of a 3-Year Alumni Relations Strategic Workplan will incorporate themes, feedback, and suggestions gathered during meetings and discussions with alumni, faculty, program staff, students, and the North Island communities we serve.

We are excited about this project and want to hear from you. Feel free to reach out to us directly to arrange a time to meet and share your ideas. We'd love to hear from you!

Alumni Definition

On February 1, 2024, the definition of a NIC alumni was approved. This is an exciting step towards building a vibrant and inclusive alumni network.

Alumni are defined as graduates and former students of NIC, including but not limited to a bachelor’s degree, associate degree, Diploma and Certificate, Micro-credential, Advanced Diploma, Advanced Certificate, Post Graduate Certificate, Post Graduate Diploma, Statement of Program or Course Completion, Micro-credential Statement of Completion, or University Transfer. Whether a student took one course or many, their education and career journey is an important part of the NIC story.

Graduate

A graduate is defined as a person who has received:

  • a Board of Governors approved credential such as a degree, diploma, or certificate; or
  • an approved professional training certificate or vocational training certificate approved by the Board of Governors and/or Education Council.

Former Student

A former student is defined as a person who has:

  • completed pre-employment training, workforce training, apprenticeship training, or upgrading;
  • received a Micro-Credential or Program Statement of Completion Certificate;
  • completed transcribable courses; or
  • completed University Transfer course(s).

The use of graduate, graduates, alum, and alumni is preferred as this is inclusive, gender-neutral language.
